For family night in the middle of last month we went over to grandma's house and found a whole bunch of pumpkins in her garden. We loaded them all up in the wagon and pulled them to the house where we washed them off and the kids had a great time figuring out which pumpkin they wanted to take home. Brynlee was begging to carve them right away but I told her to wait. Apparently she didn't like that answer because the next thing I knew all three of those girls were in the house and Brynlee had grandma helping her to carve her pumpkin. I was mad at her for not listening but at that point I decided to just let it slide and we had a good time carving our pumpkins. All three of them were actually pretty independent with their own pumpkins and did a lot of it on their own. Annalyn got frustrated with the carver not working right a few times so I did that part but she designed the face and scooped out most of the seeds. I had to help Kyla quite a bit as well but she did pretty good at getting out all of her seeds.
Our next door neighbor asked our girls if they wanted to paint his pumpkin and they were more than happy to help with that. Joel took them all over there with their paint one night and Brynlee painted the neighbor's pumpkin while Annalyn and Kyla took their own pumpkins over to paint. I was actually pretty impressed with the faces they drew. Even Kyla had a little face on her pumpkin.
All of my girls left their pumpkin at the neighbor's house and since we carved our pumpkins so early, they all rotted before Halloween and had to be thrown away. We still had several pumpkins sitting on our front step that I wanted to paint later but we never got around to it and Joel threw all of the pumpkins away as soon as Halloween was over. In fact, my girls were convinced that someone stole them when they looked out the day after Halloween and didn't see them. They were really distressed about that. When Joel told them what really happened they were so mad at him. Haha. We love pumpkins and I am glad we at least painted some of them.
