Brynlee is creative, hard working, and is a great leader. She likes to be in charge and be the boss of everything. She is kind, helpful, and an overall great kid. Lately she wants her hair straight down and parted in the middle. She wont let me fix it for her at all. She takes a shower all the time. Whenever she feels anxious she takes a quick shower and will often run off to school with her hair still a little damp since she prefers to let it air dry. She has accomplished a lot in the last six months and went on several adventures but I already wrote about most of them so I am just going to leave you with a bunch of picture. I love this girl a lot and I am glad I get to be her mom.

Brynlee 9 and 1/2
Brynlee is now nine and a half and since I did a half birthday for everyone else I better do one for her too. Brynlee is now in fourth grade. She loves her new school, has made lots of friends, and seems to have gained a lot of knowledge and confidence this year. She loves learning Spanish. She reads books all the time. She likes to be in charge and in control of everything going on around her. She finished speech but will have to get her tongue tie clipped again in February. This time it will be a longer procedure that will require stitches.

Quotable
I have been working on this post for almost an entire year. Some of these are from a while ago but here are all of the fun quotes and some stories about the funny things my kids have said or done this last year. I am going to start off this post with a few stories from little Summer.
We were walking in church one Sunday and someone walking by smiled at all the girls and said "hello ladies!" Summer stomped her foot in complete indignation and scowled at him and grouched, "I is Not a baby!"
At the beginning of the year Miriam was just a few month old, around five. I was trying to eat and she was super fussy so I picked her up and started to nurse her at the table. It's not something I usually do but things were crazy and I was hungry. Summer wanted the pepper and poured a bunch on her food. We told her that was enough and Joel tried to take it from her. In the process Summer knocked off the lid and flung the pepper all over me and poor little Miriam. Luckily none got in Miriam's eyes but I think she ate some of it.
Summer said a cute little prayer several months ago and at the end of the prayer she asked, "please bless that monster no eat me."
A few months ago Joel got to help out in nursery. I asked Summer how dad did in there and she told me, "He did alright But, dad does not look like a nursery teacher."
Another time after nursery Summer told us, "I don't like boys in my nursery.., they do not share."
Summer asked me if I wanted to play "My little Eye Spy" with her one day while we were driving in the car. I told her I would play so she said, "My little eye spy something that starts with Miriam." It was Miriam.
Another Sunday before church I went to write some notes and the pen I was using exploded and I had ink all over my hands. I tried to wash it off but it only faded a little bit. Summer discovered my hands at church and would not let me touch her with those dirty hands. I explained to her what happened and she just kept asking me, "why you hab ink?" She climbed on my lap a little bit later but as soon as I put my arms around her she yelled out really loudly in the quiet chapel, "Don't touch me! Why you hab ink?"
I could hear Summer in the pantry one day singing, "Johnny Johnny, eating sugar Yes, papa!" I opened my pantry door and there was Summer sitting on a stool with a spoon and the powdered sugar. She had it everywhere and was eating the powdered sugar as fast as she could get it in her mouth.
I went to open up my jar of peanut butter one day and got a creepy surprise. As I opened the lid something seemed to jump out at me. I dropped the jar. Upon closer inspection I discovered that Summer had stuffed a little barbie in there and the hair was sticking out. That's what startled me.
We were leaving grandma Verna's house one day when I discovered that Summer was leaving with a big bag full of treats. It was brimming with oreos and fruit snacks. I knew grandma did not get them for her so I asked her what she was doing with them, "Oh, they are for my sisters!" Grandma let her have some of them and Summer ate most of them before her sister even got home from school.
One day Summer put on a little dress and discovered that it had pockets. She gasped with excitement and said, "look, it has pockets for my soothers, I mean... My hands. Would that be alright mom?" As soon as she looked at me she remembered she wasn't supposed to have soothers anymore so she quickly tried to change her answer. That girl had such a hard time giving up her soothers. She loved those things.
"Mom, I need some help. The hard ones are not easy."
Summer always loves it when grandma buys her new clothes from garage sales. Grandma Verna usually washes them before bringing them over to us. Grandma brought over a few things one day but she didn't have anything Summer's size. I pulled out some new shirts that had belonged to her sister and gave them to Summer and she just sniffled, frowned, and with the saddest little voice said, "Yeah, but these ones do not smell like grandma's washing."
Summer went to the library and picked out a counting book one day. She came home super excited and told several people, "Now I am learning to count so I can be a grown up, and go to preschool, and have long hair."
Summer got mad at me one day and grouchily yelled at me, "You are not my best Mom!"
Summer came out from her room wearing one of her new dresses one day. She twirled so we could all admire how cute she looked. Then she lifted up her dress and showed us all the fancy looking skirt she was wearing under her dress and said, "And look, I am wearing my skirt because... FASHION!"
Summer came and brought me her Minnie mouse socks and some shoes and requested help putting them on. I reminded her that last time she wore those socks she didn't likes them and took them off. She told me, "It will be fine. I will just try to like them." I helped her put them on but she only wore them for a few minutes before taking them off.
"Mom I am going to bring an extra dress with me just in case I pee on grandma's floor."
A few weeks ago I got a text from the school saying that there had been an accident so the buses were running late. I told the girls what the text said and told them I would just drive them to school. Summer was super confused and said, "What?! Somebody peed on the road?"
I could just imagine someone accidentally peeing in the road and making the buses late because they had to drive around the pee. HaHa!
Summer: "Mom! Brynlee is doing a potty dance."
Brynlee: "No I am not, I am doing the floss."
Summer: "That looks like a potty dance to me. I think you better try to go potty."
For Brynlee's speech she had to squirt water in her mouth, say Ka, and then practice swallowing the right way with her mirror. One day Summer got a hold of Brynlee's speech stuff and did that same thing. She said "Ka," squirted the water, and swallowed just like Brynlee did. I asked Summer what she was doing and she said, "oh, I am just speechin."
Brynlee took Summer to the bathroom at church and when Summer walked back into the chapel she told me she had peed in her panties a little bit so she needed new panties. Luckily I had new panties in my bag so I handed them to her. Summer held them up all proud up in the air and skipped all the way down the aisle of the chapel to the back door. She held those panties up in the air the entire walk to the bathroom way ahead of me so I couldn't stop her.
Summer came up to me with a pair of earrings one day and asked me to put them in. I told her she didn't have any holes in her ear. She told me to just push them in and make some. I told her that would be a very painful process, "go ahead," she encouraged. "Just poke a hole. I will not cry."
Brynlee came home with some antibiotics for strep throat a few weeks ago. As soon as she walked in the door and Summer saw that medicine she begged to have some. I told her she wasn't sick so it was only for Brynlee. Summer started to sniffle and get really sad. "It's no fair," she lamented. "Brynlee got my favorite medicine and it's Bubble Gum!"
Summer is constantly getting in trouble for using all of the soap in the bathroom to make these gross slime concoctions. One day she came out of the bathroom crying and said, "Mom, I was in the bathroom making slime, I mean... I was not making anything, and I fell down and hurt my hand."
My parent's took all my kids to see the movie Abominable a few weeks ago. Joel didn't know what movie they went to see so he asked Summer to tell him what it was about. Summer told him it was about 'a gettie' aka a yeti. Joel was super confused and was thinking Summer had watched a movie about spaghetti.
I love listening to little kids talk. Summer says, "puh sawge" for massage. She says "oak milk" for oatmeal, she says "alligator" for gatorade and "puh - pree" for capri. It always make me smile when she asks me to make her some oak milk or when she asks Joel for a drink of his alligator. It almost makes me wish they could stay cute and innocent forever.
Ok, so Now lets do a few quotes and stories from Annalyn.
We were singing a baptism song for family night one day and one of the phrases of the song said, "I know when I am baptized, my wrongs are washed away." Annalyn was singing the word "lungs" instead of wrongs and she insisted that was the way the song went. When we all sang it together Annalyn sang that word really loud. "I know when I am baptized, my LUNGS are washed away." We tried to explain the song to her and she was pretty upset. "That makes no sense, they should just say my bads are washed away."
Annalyn has been reluctant to try sewing again after the last time she sewed her finger. My aunt Paula was here and convinced her that she would give Annalyn some lessons so that she could sew something and do it safely. While they were sewing Annalyn accidentally bent down and burnt her ear on the iron. She came to me in tears and told me, "mom, I guess sewing is just not my thing."
Annalyn came home from school one day while she was in first grade and was pretty grossed out because one of the girls in her class threw up right by her desk. My mom works at the school and told me Anna's teacher came to find her and told her that she did not realize what had happened. She just saw Annalyn jump up out of her desk and slowly back away. She asked Annalyn what she was doing and Anna told her, "Sky just barfed."
A few weeks after that event Annalyn came home and told me, "I never should have been in Mrs. Dalke's class. I wish I was never in her class."
"I thought you loved Mrs. Dalke," I asked, "what happened?"
"Mom, three kids in my class threw up! Three!"
Annalyn talked about it so much that Kyla even knew the names of every single kid in Annalyn's class that threw up. There were four kids by the end of the year.
(This story isn't really funny but I wanted to document it so I am adding it here.)
Towards the end of first grade Annalyn came home from school just devastated. One of the girls in her class had invited all of the other girls to her birthday party. She passed out the invitations in front of Anna and told her she wasn't invited because she was mean. This was a girl that Annalyn invited to her birthday party and that Anna thought was her friend. Anna was upset about it all day and she told me at the end of the day that she got mad, yelled at the other girl, and then hid under her desk and curled up in a ball and just cried. Anna said her teacher sent her to get a drink and then Anna found her grandma on the way back to class and got a big hug from her. When Annalyn came home she was steaming mad and was wishing all kinds of ill things on her friend. As a mom I was just devastated for her. I held her for a long time, I sympathized with her and tried to help her get through the trial the best I knew how. Annalyn was still upset about it all week. On Friday morning Annalyn said the prayer before school and in the prayer she prayed that the little girl would have a good birthday. She also prayed that she was have a fun birthday party. As she said that prayer my eyes welled up with tears and I gave her a big hug. She just told me "mom, even though she didn't invite me, I still want her to have a good birthday." Sometimes parenting is so hard and then you have beautiful moments like this that help you to really see what amazing little people you are raising.
Annalyn got her class group first grade picture and was excited to look at how it turned out. The picture was actually not a super great picture. (I paid $9 for the thing and it was super zoomed out so you could barely see anyone's face and there were several kids with their eyes closed or doing funny poses. Annalyn was one of the kids that had a funny look on her face.) Annalyn scoffed at the picture and with disgust and lots of drama said, "I know I smiled! I just know it! What happened?"
Annalyn was talking about which teacher she wanted for second grade one day and told me she wanted to get Brynlee's old teacher Mrs. Ferdinand because she heard she let the kids watch movies and because she had a real thermometer in her room.
Annalyn was talking to me one day about the time we went to "Mountain Dew." She meant the sand dunes, in Mountain Home.
Annalyn was talking to me about one of the boys in her first grade class last year and lamenting about the fact that his birthday was in January. I was confused about why that was a problem and she told me, "well, now I can't marry him. I don't want to marry a boy that has a birthday before mine!"
Annalyn sat in our new van for the first time and immediately gasped. She excitedly exclaimed, "Our new van has air conditioning!" It had several other upgrades as well but the air conditioning was the thing she noticed first and the one she was the most excited about.
We went to my parent's house and Annalyn looked at a new piece of playground equipment they had and exclaimed, " I think I am gonna be really good at that."
I told Annalyn about how she used to like to smell things all the time when she was little. A few hours later I heard her telling Kyla that she is the best sniffer. Kyla just scoffed and declared herself to be the best sniffer. The two of them fought over who was the best sniffer for a good five minutes.
Up Next here are a few quotes from Kyla.
Kyla walked outside one day and looked at our lawn and exclaimed, "Oh my! Look at all of these beautiful dandelions. Our poor neighbors don't have any in their yard. I know, maybe we can take some to them!"
For a while every time we would get in the car Kyla would sing this song that went, "Green means go, Red means stop, Yellow means caution, Orange means construction." She taught the song to all of her friends and some of them were singing "orange means obstruction or instruction." I thought Joel must have taught her this song but he said he didn't he just talked to her about the different colored lights and what then meant so she made up the song.
Kyla was talking to me about Miriam one day and said something about "when Miriam grows up to be a real Human."
I stopped her and questioned, "isn't she a real human now?"
"Nope," she replied. "Right now she is just a baby."
Kyla was in the church library with me one day and kept asking to look in the "Lost Fountain." I could not figure out what she was talking about until she opened up the drawer with the Lost and Found.
After her first night in her new bunk bed Kyla woke up in my bed and happily exclaimed, "I love my new bed."
"You do?" I questioned. "Then how come you didn't stay in it and sleep in there."
"Well actually, my new bed is a little bit scary."
Kyla came home from school a few days after school and was telling me all about kindergarten. She told me that a boy in her class hurt someone and had to go to the principal's office. I asked her if he was the troublemaker in her class. She scoffed at me and said, "No mom. I am sure he is good at home. He just made a bad choice." It is always funny getting to hear your kids repeat phrases that you say to them all the time. What was I thinking calling that little boy a troublemaker? I am glad Kyla has a good heart and is good at seeing the best in people.
And last, here are a few quotes from Brynlee.
Brynlee had to write a research paper last year in third grade. There were two lines in the paper asking her for sources. They said something along the lines of "Where did you get your information?" As I was looking over Brynlee's work I saw that she filled in the first section asking for sources with the words, "My brain." In the second section she wrote, "things I already knew."
After school one day Annalyn told me all about the talent show she had in music class that day. Annalyn had practiced a song to sing and had prepared for it. Brynlee then told me that she had participated in talent day too. I asked her what song she sang and she said, "Oh, I just played the piano." It was funny because I didn't think she had ever played the piano before.
Brynlee was telling me all about some grand thing someone on youtube had made. I told her that must have taken a lot of time and she said, "yeah well, they were mom people like you. They didn't go to school."
Right after we found Pete and thought about keeping him and I thought he was a girl Brynlee said, "Man, I feel sorry for dad. He can't even get a boy pet."
We were walking in church one Sunday and someone walking by smiled at all the girls and said "hello ladies!" Summer stomped her foot in complete indignation and scowled at him and grouched, "I is Not a baby!"

Well, that's all I have for now. I sure love these girls and I love being their mom.

Kyla at 5 and 1/2
Kyla is now five and a half so it is time for another quick update all about her. She got to celebrate her half birthday at kindergarten and she chose to take mini donuts to share with all of the kids in her class. She felt pretty special to have a day at school all about her. Kyla is definitely growing up and getting big.
Kyla is loving school and doing so well. She is the first of my kids to have all day every day kindergarten and she has done really well with it. She is picking up on things really quickly and is already reading a little bit. She knew all of her letters and sounds before school started so the teacher has her doing some first grade work as soon as she is done with the normal assignment. She is fast with her work so she has already breezed through three of those little books the teacher gave her. She is also doing first grade math and excelling at that. Her teacher also said she is kind and a great role model for the other kids. She is encouraging and helpful and has made lots of friends. I am so proud of how well she is doing.
Kyla loves to play with toys. She likes dolls, barbies, and stuffed animals the most. She plays a lot of pretend and make believe with her sisters. Kyla is terrible at cleaning her room or at picking up her messes. Summer doesn't help but together their room is always a complete mess. She is a great helper at getting or doing things for others but she hates having to pick up messes.

Kyla really is such a great kid. She can be whiny sometimes but most of the time she is silly and fun and helpful and kind. She is a great peacemaker and we all love having her in our family. (I took a video of her but can't get it to load.)

Kyla likes to play outside. She likes to swing and jump on the trampoline. She recently had me take the training wheels off of her bike and she practiced riding for quite a while but she still doesn't have super great balance and was getting frustrated super easily. She likes to ride on the old bike her dad made into a balance bike the best even though it is getting small for her. She doesn't mind the snow and is good about walking to the bus stop in the mornings.
Kyla loves to play with other kids. She is usually such a great friend. Her teacher at school told me how impressed she was that Kyla was super patient and kind even to some of the little boys that were harder to be kind to. One of her best friends at school is the principal's daughter and her teacher told me that they are super competitive with their work but they were super encouraging and kind to each other. She said she loved watching the way they pushed and encouraged each other to do better. Kyla likes to tell me about the accomplishments that other kids in her class make. She is good at celebrating their successes with them.
Kyla loves to do crafts and color. She likes to read books and write little notes to people. She likes to play games. She will sometimes get sad when she loses but for the most part she is kind and doesn't really care if she loses.
Kyla got to sing a song during the primary program with her sisters and two other girls and she stood up there and did great. She didn't seem nervous at all. She also got to perform in the Missoula play last month where she sang and danced up on the stage and did great. I love seeing her confidence shine through. She used to be so shy but I wouldn't say that about her anymore.

2019 Pictures of the Girls
A few months after we did those pictures I asked Heather if she would take some more pictures for me. Since she is awesome she agreed. We decided it would be easier to split the girls up so she took Bryn out one night and took some pictures just of her. Brynlee took lots of goofy ones but Heather managed to get several good ones. I love how they turned out.
It was a few days later that we took Kyla and Summer out and took some cute pictures of them. Taking pictures is hard work. Also at the last spot where Kyla stood to take picture there was a big pile of ants and they got all over her foot and shoe. She freaked out and made us carry her all the way back to the van. There was no way she was putting those shoes on after that. Then later that day Brynlee got bit by some ants when she buckled up in the van. We figured they must have crawled off of Kyla's shoe and been on the seat of the van and Brynlee was the unlucky one that got bit. Kyla would not wear those shoes for months. Annalyn got all dolled up and had Heather take several pictures of her as well and Brynlee jumped in a few pictures as well.
For Christmas this year my sister Alesha decided we should get all of the grand kids together and gift my mom with a picture. This one was a big challenge but I think we ended up with a good picture. We all met together after school at my sister Heather's house, we rearranged her furniture, and made it work. We had to change everyone, re fix hair, and bribe everyone with ice cream. I think my two oldest kids were the most challenging that day.
I am so grateful that I have these pictures to put on my wall. I love looking back at how much these girls have grown.
