Independence Day

Annalyn has been asking me when it would be "July" for weeks because she wanted to go see fireworks and watch the parade. Brynlee remembered all about the fourth from last year and she kept telling Anna all the things we would get to do. Annalyn couldn't wait to put on her "July" dress and go to July. As soon as it was the fourth She was so excited. She got dressed first thing that morning and was ready to go to "July." I tried to explain that we were going to the parade and she got mad. "No, I don't want to go to the parade, I want to go to July." She kept talking about going to July all day no matter how much I tried to explain things to her. She was seriously so excited for it to be "July." I fixed her hair in a fancy July braid. Joel slept in until the last possible second so we made it to the parade right before it started. Brynlee sat by her cousins Celeste, Charlotte, and Madison for most of the parade and she got lots of candy and had fun. Annalyn sat by Janeen and she got aunt Janeen and grandma to help her collect candy so she got lots of candy. Kyla sat on my lap and she got a little bit of candy. She was pretty hot and her little face was looking red so someone from the parade handed her a popsicle. She loved that. My girls love going to the parade every year.

After the parade and after we stopped to visit Joel's dad, we met my sister Alesha and two of her roommates that came to visit from school and together we went tubing down Indian Creek. My mom watched Kyla while she took a nap. I was a little worried that the girls would be cold but they didn't complain once. Brynlee shared a tube with her dad and Anna shared with Alesha. My brother Josh came with us too. We just did a really short run down the river and we had a blast. Brynlee and Annalyn wanted to keep going and they keep asking to do that again. Some of the tubes had holes so it is probably a good thing it was a short run.

After tubing down the river we went and got some snow cones. Brynlee loved talking to Alesha's roommates. Then we went to my parent's house for a little barbecue and we feasted on some great food. They had cupcakes with rings on them for dessert. Brynlee asked Alesha's roommate Wendy to read what her ring said. It said "USA." "Do you know what that means?" Wendy asked. "Yeah," Brynlee replied, "like you party in the USA."

Then my parents lit off a few fireworks in their yard. Bryn and Anna really liked the smoke bombs but Anna didn't like the loud ones at all. She ran to the closest person (Alesha's roommate Brielle) as soon as the loud one went off, and then she sat on her lap and would not move for the rest of the fireworks. We went to Melba for their firework display when it started to get dark. We spent forever looking for Heather and eventually we found and sat by her. She had a spot right next to where they shoot the fireworks off so we got a great view. They set off these balls of fire and we could feel the heat from them. We got some french fries before the show started and we didn't have to wait long for the fireworks to start. Kyla went from Joel to me and she seemed to like looking at the lights. She ate a ton of french fries and enjoyed the show. Brynlee and Anna loved watching the fireworks as well.

We had to walk a while to get to our van but then we got right into traffic and made it home pretty quickly. The girls were asleep so we carried them to bed. It was a really fun day and a great break from working on the house. As much as the United States seems to be going into some wicked ways, I am still so grateful to live here. Just when I get a little discouraged about the state of our nation, someone will show me a kindness or help me out and my faith in humanity is restored. I am so grateful that I can live my religion the way I want and share all of these fun moments with my family. I love living in the USA. Happy July Day!

June

June was a super busy month. With Kyla's 1st birthday, Brynlee's 5th Birthday, the Hirtle family reunion, and Father's day, we had a lot going on. The girls spent a lot of time playing in the water outside. We played in the slip and slide and the pool Brynlee got for her birthday. The girls caught bugs, played on the play set, and just enjoyed the warm weather.

The girls and I started going to the summer reading program they have at the library. They have a superhero theme this summer so we had one day where local heros came and talked to the kids. The kids even got to look at the police car, ambulance, the mail truck and the fire truck. Brynlee waited a long time in line to ask the policeman a question. She wanted to know if he had a "mission" to go on. He told her he actually did because someone had just found some drugs. Brynlee thought that was so cool. The girls also got to sit in the firetruck. Another time they danced to all the superhero theme songs. My sister Heather and my mom have gone with us a few times and my girls love going.

Joel's dad got six little pigs to raise and we paid him for one of them. We got the all pink girl one and the girls named her Peppa. It is nice because they are feeding it and taking care of it, we just have to help pay for some of the food and we get to go visit every once in a while.

Brynlee got to go with my mom and grandma to see the Cinderella movie and she loved it. She came home and told me all about the movie and what happened. Her description included the fact that Cinderella had "cash" all over herself from sitting by the fire and she also told me that "the first part wasn't so fun because her sisters were really mean to Cinderella. But the end was really fun because Cinderella and the handsome prince fell in love and then... They Kissed!" My mom said Brynlee asked her question through the whole movie and could not be quiet. Since Brynlee got to go to a movie I took Annalyn to a movie just with me and we saw "Inside Out" or what Brynlee and Annalyn called "the brain freeze movie." I haven't done anything with just Annalyn in a long time and it was lots of fun for me to do something special just with her. We both liked the movie but I think the meaning of the story was a little over Anna's head. She got kind of shy once we were in the theater and she sat on my lap for the whole movie. She ate lots of popcorn and we had fun being together.

About a week after Kyla turned a year old, she took off with the whole walking thing and she hasn't looked back. She is a pretty fast little walker these days and a major climber. I cannot keep her off of my kitchen chairs and the table. If any kind of food or water is left on the table, she climbs up there, spills everything all over the place, and then bends down to suck up whatever she can get. I have tried several tactics to keep her from climbing to no avail. Now I am just focusing on teaching Brynlee and Annalyn not to leave anything on the table. Kyla fell off the table a few time but usually she just whines and hollers until I come and rescue her. Kyla is the most expressive baby and she loves to go up and babble to people an pretend she is talking. She is so intent and serious and she makes the best little sounds. It cracks me up every time. She got another tooth on the top of her mouth so now she has a total of five teeth. She likes to do everything the big kids do.

My girls are seriously so good at keeping themselves entertained. It seems like there is never a dull moment around here. The have been putting on puppet shows, making hair wigs out of toilet paper, spinning around in the chair, and playing with their toys. Annalyn has been obsessed with "Squeaky Rat" again and she has been sleeping with him and taking him places with her. Anna got out the chocolate mix one day and made her own cup of chocolate milk, after I told her she couldn't have any and then Kyla had fun playing in the chocolate mix. Most days Brynlee and Annalyn start playing together from the moment they wake up and I love it. I make them do all their chores and help out around the house before we can go anywhere and before they can watch a movie. They are only allowed to watch one movie a day and I think that has really helped them to be more creative with their play. Lots of the time they won't even ask to watch a movie at all.

I started going to Zumba at the church again. At least, we have made it a few times. Kyla made me hold her the whole time we went at first but she is slowly warming up to the idea and she will play by me a little so I can exercise. Other than that our month consisted of working on the house, going to church, and I spent several days helping my mom to organize the downstairs room in their house. After church the girls and I often end of waiting for Joel to go to his "quick 10 minute meeting" that usually lasts for an hour so we sit under this tree and the girls love playing in the dirt under there while we wait for their dad. We have enjoyed eating popsicles, playing outside, and eating fresh food from grandma's garden. We go over when we can to help her out.

As for our house, by the end of the month we had all of the walls up. Joel built the floor of the house and then built all of the outside and the inside walls. We have had lots of help which we are super grateful for but since Joel can only really work on it on weeknights and Saturdays, it is going up slowly. Joel did take a few days off of work before the reunion and worked on it but those days were so incredibly hot. He roasted. The inspector made him put all the black plastic in the foundation before he would pass it so Joel's spent the hottest day of the year (I think) under the floor of our house crawling on that hot plastic. I don't know how he does it. We have still been bringing Joel dinner out to the house and the girls love playing in the dirt out there. It has been fun for all of us to watch our house come to life. He just needs to finish sheeting the curved walls and then he will start putting up the trusses. Slowly but surely this house is being built.
